The target is a trench aligned NE-SW (18m by 4m and 2m deep) behind and to the SE of a large stone bank of similar dimensions. The northern side of the trench is revetted with mortared stone walling and the 3rd Edition Os map shows a small square structure at its SW end. Some 83m to the NW is the 100 yard shooting butt comprising a rectangular earthwork aligned NE-SW and measuring 15m by 8m and 3m tall. On the basis of regressive map analysis, the rifle range was built between 1904 and 1919 and is probably associated with the activities of the Territorial Army (formed 1908) leading up to the First World War. The site was discovered by Mr Ian Fewings of the Aberystruth History and Archaeology Society.
